The Gamma-Ray Spectrum Resulting from pp Interactions in Quasars

By Murray Eldon Dixson

A simple first order model is developed to explore the hypothesis that the extended multifrequency continuum of 3C273 any be attributed to processes related to production of secondary electrons via inelastic pp interactions. Many features of the observed continuum can be explained in this way. However, problems are apparent in explaining both the high energy X-ray continuum and that at gamma-ray energies. Further studies of variations on this general idea are required.
