Program Admission/Financial Aid Application
Applying to the graduate program in Astrophysics at the University of Minnesota is a TWO-STEP process:
STEP ONE: 1.) Print and complete the Astronomy Program/Financial Aid Application and send along with copies of the supporting materials listed.
Supporting Materials -
- Academic transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable)
- Personal statement of goals
- Scores for GRE General Test and Subject Test in Physics
- TOEFL or IELTS scores for those whose native language is not English (unofficial copies acceptable).
Your three (3) letters of recommendation will be submitted electronically as part of the Graduate School application in step 2.

Graduate School Admission Application
STEP TWO: 2.) Complete the online application to the Graduate School. Please read the notes below regarding the Graduate School application process.
The Graduate School Application is available interactively from the Graduate School.
You need to complete the Graduate School application BUT you don't need to submit it with your application fee at this time. You can wait to submit it until you hear whether or not you'll be receiving financial aid from us. When you fill out the Graduate School application, be sure you list the program you want, Astrophysics.
Note: With regard to the Graduate School Admission Application, the following supporting materials must be uploaded into their application system; they will not accept paper copies of these items.
- Transcripts (unoffical transcripts accepted at this stage)
- Personal statement
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
