The State of the Neutral Hydrogen in the Milky Way Galaxy

Our group is part of three major surveys of the Neutral Hydrogen in the Milky Way Galaxy, the Southern Galactic Plane Survey (SGPS) the VLA Galactic Plane Survey (VGPS) and the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS). These datasets give us an unprecedented arcminute resolution view of most most of the Galactic Plane. Our interests focus on understanding the general state of the Neutral Hydrogen. How does the temperature and density of the gas vary with Galactocentric radius? How far away from the Galactic center can we detect hydrogen? How cold does the Neutral Hydrogen get?

These and other questions can be addressed with the help of the great data we have.
